Dear MEE Graduate Students,

I am considering recruiting two new graduate students with a possible immediate assistantships and/or summer assistantship, in the following area:

POLY-nanofluids (Polymer-nanofluids) & DR-nanofluids (Drag-Reduction-nanofluids):
A Nanofluids Research Initiative (more at www.kostic.niu.edu/DRnanofluids ):

1. One opening for (Experimental and Data Acquisition area):
   Development of advanced, drag-reduction heat-transfer nanofluids. Click for more Info

Regarding the above announcement, about recruiting new graduate students with a possible immediate (Fall 2009 or Current semester) assistantships and/or Summer assistantship, I want to inform all of you who are interested with the following:

1. Deadline for applications and personal interviews is one week from the announcement date above or as specified otherwise, and I will make decision soon afterwards.
2. Before applying, I recommend that you talk with my present Teaching/Research Graduate Assistants and/or other senior graduate students: (see OfficeHrs/Info/Sch), and review relevant information at: www.kostic.niu.edu .
3. Your application should have the following:
      (A) Letter of Interest, a one-page specific statement of your interest and/or experience in related areas (avoid general/philosophical narrative)
      (B) your Curriculum Vita (preferably one-page, and
      (C) Filled-in the Application Form (all required, do not skip any field; must be one page only) downloaded from: www.kostic.niu.edu/GA-Appl-Form.pdf  or in MS-Word: www.kostic.niu.edu/GA-Appl-Form.doc
4. Please email your application to me (Subject: GA Application-Your First Last name), then print it and bring it with you for an interview (as announced above or during my office hours) before the above deadline. Printout also this page and Agreement Letter [Agree] to discuss it during the interview (no need to sign). Please review and understand everything or clarify during the interview.

NOTE 1:

Assistantships are competitive and you (student) should discuss with all faculty for available opportunities before you make final choice and full commitment. We faculty do and should fairly compete for excellent students before they make their choice and commitment, but not after that (will be unfair, waste of time and resources), since MS program is rather short and our time for your training and funds are limited. Therefore, our financial opportunities are offered to only qualified students with firm commitments. Furthermore, we should not support students changing projects (unproductive for everyone and loss of investment) unless all involved agree with that. The assistantship, when available should be accepted only if you are freely and fully committed to the objectives of the funded project without a doubt (you may work voluntarily to find out). Then, if you accept our assistantship it should be respected as a research and training opportunity, an honor beyond monetary reward, and as the professional responsibility and reference for your future career. NOTE 2:
As per prior Chair Song’s announcement, it is important that you show genuine interest, including voluntary work with current GAs (TAs/RAs) in the area of your interest, in order to be more competitive for future assistantships.
